Plant Cell | Xia Jixing Group of Guangxi University revealed the molecular mechanism of the formation of Kjeldahl zone in rice endothelial layer and its role in the absorption of mineral elements

Casparian strip is a zonal thickening structure of lignification and corking on the radial and transverse walls of endothelial cells. It is an important cell feature of higher plant roots and plays an important role in the selective absorption of nutrients by roots. In addition, Kjeldahl zone has also been proved to play an important role in plant resistance to drought, salt, heavy metals and other stresses. However, the formation mechanism of Kjeldahl zone and its role in selective nutrient uptake in rice are still unclear.

Recently, Xia Jixing, a research group of School of Life Science and Technology of Guangxi University, published a research paper entitled "Three OsMYB36 members uniformly regulated Casparian Strip formation at the root endodermis" online in The Plant Cell, an international famous plant academic journal, revealing the molecular mechanism of the formation of the Kjeldahl zone in the rice endodermis and its role in the absorption of mineral elements.
